The school library media center is an essential component of the education of young people as it meets daily the problems associated with the growth of knowledge and the searching of students and teachers for information. The guidelines drawn up by the author for the IFLA Section of School Libraries for the development of these libraries are presented; they concern personnel, collection, facilities.
